For transmitting the SPC data over large distances (up to 100 feet, environmentally dependent), nothing beats an RF (radio frequency) system.  ProTable can be built using a special display, and a remote receiver (both pictured). The receiver connects to a computer via serial port.  Support for USB connections is coming soon.

The number and units displayed can be transmitted, plus display ID number, node ID number, signal strength, and more.  For more information, see: ProScale-RF Wireless SPC transmission. Up to 63 transmitters can be used with a single receiver.
