Most of the Readouts for ProScale systems are interchangeable and backward compatible. However, it is VERY IMPORTANT that the ENCODER and SCALE use the same measurement technology.

SCALE & ENCODER TECHNOLOGY MUST MATCH FOR A PROSCALE SYSTEM TO OPERATE CORRECTLY!

NOTE: A 'splice' may be observed every 17" (430mm) - see above - on some scales:
THIS IS NORMAL and should not be considered a defect or damaged scale!

How to shorten an ABS Scale

Scales: Absolute Scales come two styles and several standard lengths.
Earlier scales were all supplied with ground wires pressed into the sides of the extrusion.
Since 2009 scales used with 12-24 VDC (non-battery) operated readouts, and those used with a wired data transmission converter, required these wires.
NOTE: Scales with wires have a 'G' appended to their current part numbers and need to be mated with an encoder with a 'G' appended to its part numbers (see below).  IF YOUR SYSTEM USES A NON BATTERY OPERATED READOUT or A WIRED DATA CONVERTER, YOU MUST USE A SCALE AND ENCODER WITH A 'G' SUFFIX.

Model 150      0.75" wide x 0.25" high

Model 250       2.02" wide x 0.75" high

All Absolute (M150 & M250) SCALES manufactured prior to Jan. 1, 2009 had stainless steel wires pressed into the side of the profile. (Picture at left shows Model 250).

SCALES manufactured after to Jan. 1, 2009, WITH these wires have part #'s ending in 'G'
SCALES manufactured after to Jan. 1, 2009, WITHOUT these wires DO NOT have part #'s ending in 'G'

Scale part #'s ending in 'G' are required for systems:

• Using external 12-24VDC power.

• Using wired data converters.

Encoders: Absolute Encoders come in two styles with several different cable lengths.
Over the years the ABS Encoder has been supplied in a light gray housing with a flat gray cable and most recently in a dark gray housing with a round black cable.
NOTE: Some Encoders have "ground fingers" on the inside next to the circuit board.  These encoders are for use with scales that have wires pressed into the side of the aluminum extrusion. These Encoders have a 'G' appended to their part number. IF YOUR SYSTEM USES 12-24 VDC (NON BATTERY) OPERATED READOUT, YOU MUST USE A SCALE AND ENCODER WITH A 'G' SUFFIX.
